Abstract:
This work presents a synthesis of the research process and the integrationof its results, developed during 2005 with the aim of reconstructingthe social imaginary of the military dictatorship (1976 - 1983) in Argentina, through San Luis residents’ discourse. To problematize the research topic, we wondered if the social imaginary significations arising from the symbolic networks and practices instituted by dictatorship were still present nowadays, and how they took part orinterfered in the construction of democratic practices as well as in the subjectivityof social actors of San Luis. Within the qualitative logic, our methodologicalapproach was based on Glaser & Strauss’s Grounded Theory.In-depth interview was the instrument chosen for gathering the data. Itwas intended for inquiring into two aspects simultaneously, namely subjects’remembrances of the past and how that past influenced in their current life. These subjects were ordinary citizens who did not suffer politicalrepression as direct victims or as relatives of other victims. They lived in San Luis during the military dictatorial period, and they were between 20 and 40 years old at that time. The organization of analysis units in categories and properties was the first step to reconstruct the imaginary of thattime from the current memory and imaginary, and to interpret them within the frame of the dictatorial mechanism
