Abstract: This work analyzes the first one-hundred days of the agricultural producers’ lockout against the Argentine government, attempting to understand
the new meanings attributed in the current events to old words and doctrines. To that end, three shifts of meaning are examined: i) why the lockout is called strike; ii) why the police power is not exercise by the State but by
the civil society directly; and iii) how the concept of people is redefined with the access to private property. From this perspective, this work reflects upon the public space as a brothel, i.e. as a public place where private affairs are exposed, highlighting its possible limits and implications.
