Abstract:
The logic of efficiency invading the social and institutional scenes nowadays results in an increasing malaise that hinders university teachers’ desire as to the actions of educating, researching and generating knowledge. Objective conditions have changed over the course of time but, are they the only answer to what is happening to us? This work intends to carry out a theoretical reflection on the subjective issue involved, that permits to warn about the differences among the possible ways of positioning ourselves before such a feeling of discontent, either suffering or doing something with this malaise. These distinctions allow us to analyze what is known as ‘the two faces of a coin’, revealing the same response to the capitalist-efficient logics: the “burned-out” teacher or the apparently uninterested one. In addition to this inherent suffering, there exists the risk implied within this positioning, that is, being trapped in a close-up circle moving from stereotyped complain to subjective and group immobilization. Another possibility would arise when the teacher becomes engaged with her/his desire, logic to be put forth in the collective and institutional context. Moreover, unless personal reflection articulates to collective construction, uneasiness in the form of protest and subjective implication may become insufficient antidotes.
