Abstract: The article presents a reflection on the cognitive rules that guide the investigation from the contributions of so-called “Relational Epistemology”, with particular application to the human sciences. The activity in the Humanities is defined by a variety of methodological strategies. We understand
that this multiplicity corresponds to a level of specialization of human disciplines,
which is now unavoidable. However, we believe that the passage of this dissociating diversity - in relation to methods - towards a point of plural coincidence which enriches the human scientific approach is necessary. An epistemology of the relationship explains the necessary co-construction when the reality of human nature is studied. From this perspective, the following rules yield relevant: (1) The map is not the territory, (2) All knowledge
is self-referential, (3) An act of conduct is a movement towards a goal, (4) Science is making science in a context, and, (5) The scientist is part of the investigation. We finish by highlighting that the importance of this change of perspective, since researchers fail to see the method as a rigid prescription to which they must adhere and explain their presuppositions as the key to co-construct the reality under study.
