Abstract:
This work will show a brief historical overview of Capitalism with the purpose of analyzing the way in which contradictions between reality and narrative have unfold. Then, we will briefly explain how the story of Capitalism and the story of Psychology intersect. We will also analyze why dominant psychology has not helped to overcome mental suffering, but it has rather alienated individuals who are in the social basis of this suffering, individualizing and labeling people as having a pathology, as well as legitimizing capitalist contradictions. Taking this a reference, we will reveal both concrete and symbolic contradictions generated by Capitalism, thus making evident how these contradictions lead to a process of alienation and psychological distress. Finally, we hope this work helps to think of a present and a future able to overcome the psychologizing discourse as an instrument of social control.
