Abstract:
The Faculty of Chemical Engineering of the National University of Litoral (Argentina) has a solid experience in extension programs, with highly qualified human resources in basic and applied sciences and links with a number of Science and Technology institutions; this makes it an ideal institution for the undertaking of public communication of science programs in the region. As such, the Faculty conducts a variety of activities such as Math Festivals (aniMATE), Chemistry Festivals (alQuímica) and Physics Festivals (Quántico). These are open to the community and promote innovative approaches to these disciplines. Likewise, the area Ciencia Retro proposes the use of reconditioned old lab equipment to demonstrate scientific practices and stories. The area Cultura Nómada is in charge of the circulation of educational material and activities. Its aim is to integrate the population, institutions and communities within their context so as to decentralize actions and reinforce democratization spaces. Apart from the originality of the proposals, the role of the academic community is especially important because it contributes to improve and create critical thinking. In this way the local knowledge is enriched and the bond between science and society is strengthened.
