Abstract:
Framed within Applied Ethics, this work puts forward theoretical contributions to the field of professional deontology in general, and of the practice in psychology, in particular. It analyzes the central notion of responsibility beyond the legal area from an ethical-anthropological view, interpreting its meaning from three dimensions: intrasubjective, intersubjective and collective. On the other hand, the work examines the Aristotelian concept of phronesis (the virtud of prudence) as a response of the professional practice to demanded responsibility. A moral judgement seeking the happy medium would show an ethical attitude from the professional assessing the possible actions to be taken and choosing the best one in relation to the other’s universal dignity and particularity. Psychology as a discipline and professional practice within the field of human sciences becomes a good example because the presence of its object of study –another subject- invites the psychologist to have an ethical attitude of responsible prudence. This work is based on Paul Ricoeur’s ethical-hermeneutics.
