Abstract:
For almost 20 years, the team of the Research Project on Old Age of Universidad Nacional de San Luis has been offering workshops to senior adults. These courses are framed within the nonformal education, considered as participative, systematic and permanent. A number of research works state that one of the negative stereotypes about old age is that an aging person cannot learn new things. Therefore, those subjects who are willing to be part of this learning proposal have to face the prejudices of social imaginary about what they can or cannot do. This work is aimed at inquiring into the social significations of this problematic in young and old age people. The data analysis shows that, together with the social imaginary, full of prejudices and negative stereotypes related to old age, there are forces expressing the radical imaginary that may lead to the emergence of new significations about learning.
